How Big is a Bed Bug?

Adult bed bugs can reach 5 mm in length. Their size varies greatly based on whether or not they’ve recently fed. After drawing blood from a host, their bodies will look longer, more cylindrical, and brighter red in color. Adult bed bugs can be spotted by the naked eye easily, but they tend to hide out of view, tucked away until the night comes.

The Life Cycle of Bed Bugs

The bed bug life cycle starts with bed bugs laying their eggs in discreet areas, like mattresses, furniture, baseboards, floorboards, and cracks in the wall. Their eggs are tiny, white, and oblong. Bed bug nymphs just look like smaller versions of the adults that they will soon become. They will find blood meals to shed their exoskeleton several times before maturing into a fully-developed bed bug.
