Are Mosquitoes Attracted to Light?
Mosquitoes aren’t typically out in the daylight and prefer shadier areas during the day. Mosquitoes are most active at dusk and dawn, which is when sunlight is low. Especially at these times of day, mosquitoes use light to find their hosts. However, mosquitoes do not see light the same way we do.
Mosquitoes navigate by using natural light from the moon and stars. Artificial lights, then, can be a natural deterrent to mosquitoes by disorienting them.
Do Ultraviolet or LED Lights Repel Mosquitoes?
Many insect traps you see in stores contain a light source that supposedly draws insects toward them. However, this is not the case for mosquitoes. Mosquitoes are not attracted to ultraviolet or LED light any more than they are to normal lights. LEDs in particular put off less warmth than other bulbs, making them even less attractive to these blood-sucking pests.

Are Mosquitoes Attracted to Color?
As odd as it sounds, a proven way to repel mosquitoes is to wear brightly colored clothing. Darker clothes in tones of black, gray, or red, will make it easier for insects to find you. Wearing darker clothing traps heat in your body, resulting in more output of your natural scent. Wearing white, khaki, or white colored clothing, on the other hand, can help to repel mosquitoes. Lighter colors will deter mosquitoes and help keep you cool by reflecting sunlight away.
Repel Mosquitoes With Light
While light can help repel some types of mosquitoes, lights neither deter nor attract mosquitoes. For that reason, it’s important to stay away from light traps if you want to keep mosquitoes at bay. Instead, it’s important to consult your local mosquito control expert for help preventing mosquitoes in your yard.
